A pointed media question and a fumbling response by Prime Minister Mark Carney at a press conference last week has raised two very serious matters that bring into question the integrity and intent of the PM. On one level the exchange points to the possibility of conflicts of interest by the PM in his unreported meetings with international business investors. On a broader level there is the concern for Canada’s economic growth strategy and its foreign affairs, and what is being advanced by the PM behind closed doors – seemingly without Canadians’ input or parliamentary debate.
PM Carney had barely touched down after four days in New York at the United Nations meetings when he was jetting off to spend a few days in London, England – his fifth such cross-Atlantic trip in seven months.
